Krista Karch
I’m an award-winning news and communications leader with more than 20 years of experience at mission-driven organizations. A nonprofit newsroom veteran, my expertise includes brand strategy and positioning, communications strategy, philanthropic engagement and editorial work. I specialize in international communications.
I began my career in local news in upstate New York and Washington state, covering religion, refugee and immigrant issues, American Indian reservations, state and local government and more. At United Press International, I built a program to train and employ journalists and communications leaders in more than a dozen countries. I went to Global Press Journal to launch a syndication strategy and quickly moved into editorial roles, eventually becoming Editor-in-Chief, leading a global team of more than 30 people. I’ve also worked at NPR’s Morning Edition and its podcast, UpFirst.
I’ve worked extensively in nonprofit communications, including as Director of Communications for Global Restoration Initiative, which aims to restore land to mitigate and adapt to climate change, and as Director of Communications and Engagement for Nature Crime Alliance, which tracks crimes that damage and destroy the natural world for illicit gain. Both are divisions of World Resources Institute, where I also worked as a senior writer and editor.
I have a master’s degree in journalism from Syracuse University and a bachelor’s degree in religion from Davis College. I live in the Washington, DC area.
